About this tool

Which barcode type do you need?

Code 128 is the flexible choice for internal use: stock codes, asset tags, order numbers and shipping labels. It can hold letters, numbers and symbols, and it is compact. EAN-13 is the standard retail barcode in most of the world, and UPC-A is its North American equivalent. EAN-8 is a shorter version for small packaging.

Retail barcodes are different from internal ones: to sell through shops, the numbers need to be issued to your company by GS1, the organisation that manages them. This generator draws the barcode for any valid number, but it cannot issue official product numbers.

Printing tips

Black on white

Dark bars on a light background scan most reliably.

Do not stretch

Change size with the bar width setting instead of stretching the image.

Keep the margins

Leave the blank space on each side; scanners need it.

Use SVG for labels

SVG prints crisply at any size on label printers.
