A plain find and replace matches text anywhere, so replacing "art" would also change "start" and "party". Whole words only prevents that by matching complete words. Match case lets you replace "Apple" the company without touching "apple" the fruit.
Regular expressions are patterns for advanced matching, such as every phone number, every date or every double space. With regex enabled, you can also reuse captured groups in the replacement with $1, $2 and so on.
